PLAY / Self Portrait Cube

Self Portrait Cube
Created in an industrial design course @ MassArt, 2016

DIRECTION
Make a 3"x3" cube representing your self.

TOOLS
Decorative paper · Embroidery thread · Rhinestones · Glow-in-the-dark paint · Foam core board

CONTEXT
This was a class assignment with an open-ended prompt: design a 3"x3" cube as a self-portrait. I used it to reflect on how we see ourselves versus how others see us. Each panel reveals a different visual layer — from the clean, colorful exterior to the glowing internal supports and imperfect seams inside. It became a quiet, tactile self-portrait, showing how identity shifts depending on the angle, the light, and the gaze.
